Canada Wood

The woodland walks around Canada Wood, just outside Market Rasen, offer proper respite from the Lincolnshire flatlands. This isn't some manicured country estate - it's genuine working forest with paths that wind through mature trees and open out onto surprisingly decent views across the Wolds. The whole place has that slightly wild feeling you get when nature's been left to its own devices. You'll spot plenty of birdlife, especially if you head in early morning, and the canopy does its job on drizzly days.

It works best for walkers and families after a bit of fresh air rather than anything particularly historic or spectacular. Most people spend between 45 minutes and two hours here depending on which routes they take. There are no visitor facilities to speak of, so bring water and something to eat if you're planning the longer loop.

For caravan holidays in the area, it's within easy reach of both Wolds View Country Park and Station Farm, making it a good morning walk before heading back for lunch. Combine it with a visit to Market Rasen itself for a proper Lincolnshire market town wander. The forest is free to access and there's parking available, though spaces can fill up on weekends. Winter's actually decent here - fewer midges and the bare branches mean you get sight lines you don't get in summer.
