The three-county marker sits quietly on the border where Essex, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk meet - the sort of place locals know about but most visitors drive straight past. It's a straightforward stone monument marking where the three shires converge, and if you're halfway between Saffron Walden and the Cambridgeshire villages, it makes a decent stop to stretch your legs and claim you've stood in three counties at once.

The appeal is chiefly novelty, if we're being honest. You get a photo, maybe a bit of that childhood thrill of standing in multiple places simultaneously, then you're moving on. It won't hold you for more than ten minutes unless you're the type who enjoys reading old boundary stones and contemplating administrative history - which, fair play, some people are. The actual views aren't spectacular, and there's precious little context about how or why the boundaries were drawn this way.

Pairs well with a broader ramble through the surrounding countryside rather than as a dedicated destination. If you're based at Readers Field Glamping or HappenOak Treehouse, both just down the road near Saffron Walden, you could incorporate it into a walking route through the rural borderlands - there's proper quiet countryside here, proper Essex farmland, worth taking time over. Worth the detour if you're already exploring the area, but don't go out of your way specially.
