Burgage Recreation Ground

The Burgage Recreation Ground sits just outside Ludlow, a proper slice of countryside that's easy to walk past if you're not paying attention. It's a nature reserve with genuine character - wet meadows, woodland edges, and the sort of quiet you don't find in town. The ground itself is open grassland where locals take their dogs, but the real draw is the wildlife corridor that runs through it. You'll spot reed warblers in summer, and the wetland areas pull in dragonflies that'll stop you in your tracks.

This works best for walkers and nature enthusiasts rather than families after a theme park fix. There's no formal visitor centre or marked trails, so it's very much a place to roam at your own pace. The walk from Ludlow takes under fifteen minutes depending where you start. Spring and early summer are the sweet spot - everything's in bloom and the birds are loud.

It's free, which helps when you're basing yourself at one of the caravan parks nearby. Orchard Holiday Park and Knighton on Teme are both within easy reach, making Burgage a decent quick escape during your stay. Allow an hour to properly explore it without rushing. Nothing fancy, no facilities, but that's rather the point. It's the kind of place that reminds you why the Marches exist in the first place.
