About Bryn Garw
You get meadowland most of the way up, with the path winding through moorland that turns golden in late summer. The summit itself is fairly open, so wind can be bracing, but on a clear day you're looking out over valleys that seem to roll on forever. On my visit in September the light was doing something magical across the hills to the south.
Walkers will absolutely get the most from this one. It's a genuine day-out hike rather than a casual stroll, especially if you're doing the loop, so families with younger kids might find it a bit much. Allow three to four hours depending on your fitness and how often you stop to catch your breath or admire the view. The path can be muddy after rain, so decent boots are essential.
If you're staying at Welsh Glamping nearby, this makes a natural morning excursion before heading out to explore more of the mid-Wales valleys. Free to walk, obviously. Go on a clear day if you can - cloudy summits here feel rather pointless.
