Brown Clee Hill

The walk up Brown Clee Hill rewards you with one of those rare Shropshire views that makes the climb actually worthwhile. At 540 metres, it's the county's second-highest point, and on a clear day you can see right across to Wales. The summit is surprisingly windswept - bring a proper jacket even in summer.

It's accessible enough for reasonably fit walkers, though the final push is steep and the paths can be boggy depending on weather. Most people manage the ascent in under an hour from the car park near Bridgnorth. The hillfort remains from the Iron Age, though honestly you'll be too focused on not twisting an ankle to appreciate the archaeology much. The real draw is simply being up there - the landscape sprawls out in every direction, moorland and forest and distant ridges.

This isn't a casual stroll. Bring proper boots and water. Kids will find it a legitimate adventure rather than a boring park walk, especially if you frame it as a conquest. The summit can get crowded on weekends in peak season, so an early start makes sense.

If you're staying at Wheathill Touring Park just down the road, you've got a proper hill day sorted without travelling far. Bridgnorth itself is worth an afternoon afterwards - the High Street has decent pubs and the Severn views from town level are lovely. Brown Clee makes sense as part of a wider Shropshire ramble rather than a standalone trip.
