Broome Beacon

You can walk right up to it, and on a clear day the views across Norfolk's rolling countryside justify the effort. It's not a grand tourist attraction with gift shops and guided tours; it's just a proper beacon, weathered and real.

This works best for anyone who likes a bit of local history without the theatre of it. Walkers on the Norfolk trails will naturally gravitate here. Kids might find it moderately interesting for ten minutes - the climb isn't exactly thrilling, and there's no interactive anything - but the views from the top reward the effort. History enthusiasts get a genuine example of working heritage architecture, though you'll want to do your own research before visiting, as information on-site is thin.

Allow 30 to 45 minutes including the walk up and a bit of lingering. It's free to visit, though do check locally in Bungay first for any seasonal closures. The beacon slots nicely into a Norfolk holiday at one of the nearby campsites. Wardley Hill is closest at just over a mile away, making it an easy evening stroll. The Wildings Elms Meadow, five miles out, gives you more breathing room but still puts you within striking distance. Not a destination in itself, but a solid add-on for anyone already staying in the area.
