Broom Wood

A proper woodland walk without the crowds - that's what you get at Broom Wood, just outside Sevenoaks. The forest is dense enough to feel like you've actually left civilization, with mature trees creating proper dappled shade even on the brightest days. There are trails threading through, though they're not signposted to death, so come with a map or phone GPS if you're the type who gets turned around easily.

It's the kind of place where you notice things - woodland birds, the occasional muntjac if you're quiet, and the sort of floor carpeted in last season's leaves that makes walking genuinely pleasant rather than a slog. Families with kids who can manage a two-hour ramble will have a decent time; younger children might struggle with the lack of facilities or obvious points of interest. There's no visitor centre, no car park that I could trace, and no entry fee that I'm aware of - it's just woods.

The real draw is that it sits well within reach of several holiday parks in the area. Thriftwood Country Park and Chegworth Mill Glamping are both under three miles away, making this a handy option if you're based at one of them and the weather's decent. It's not a destination on its own - you won't spend more than a couple of hours here - but as part of a wider Sevenoaks woodland circuit, it works. Best visited autumn through spring when the undergrowth dies back and walking's easier.
