Brookhouse Wood

The woodland around Brookhouse Wood, just outside Stoke-on-Trent, is proper walking territory. You're looking at mature trees, decent paths that wind through without being overcomplicated, and the kind of quiet you don't often find this close to a town. The forest isn't enormous, so it's not a full-day commitment, but it's absolutely worth an hour or so if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks.

Walkers will find it straightforward enough. The ground can get muddy after rain, so decent boots are sensible. Kids tend to enjoy pottering about looking for sticks and investigating the undergrowth, though it's not a destination that'll keep them entertained for hours on end. It's more a genuine stretch-your-legs job than a theme-park experience.

The real value here is location. If you're based at Stone Wall Farm CL, Glencote Caravan Park, or Intake Farm Campsite, you've got a natural escape within a few miles without needing to drive far. It breaks up a park holiday nicely, particularly if you want to avoid the crowds at bigger attractions. The trees do their job - they're tall, they're green, and they offer shelter on grey Staffordshire days, which happen often enough.

Free access and no faffing about with opening times means you can slip in and out to suit your schedule. Bring a decent map or use a walking app though, as signposting can be sparse in places. Worth the detour if you're already in the area.
