Brockhill Country Park

The views across Romney Marsh from Brockhill Country Park are genuinely worth the trip, especially if you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted around Hythe. It's essentially a proper country park with good walking routes through the countryside, and on a clear day you can see right across the flat landscape that makes this part of Kent rather special.

What you get here is a mixture of open grassland and wooded areas - it's the kind of place where you can stretch your legs without needing to be a serious hiker. The paths are well-maintained, making it manageable for families with young kids, though older children might find it a bit tame if they're after something more dramatic. Dog walkers absolutely love it here.

Based near Hythe, Brockhill works brilliantly as a morning or afternoon break if you're camped at Port Lympne Safari Park or any of the other holiday sites in the area. If you're doing the full Romney Marsh experience - Safari Park, Dungeness, that sort of thing - this gives you a quieter alternative without having to travel far.

Parking's straightforward and it's free to wander around, which is exactly what you want from a country park. Allow a couple of hours if you're doing a proper walk, or just thirty minutes if you fancy a quick leg-stretch. Best visited when the weather's decent - the exposed moorland can get quite windswept when it's blowing a gale.
