Brock Hill

The walk up Brock Hill from Guildford takes you through proper Surrey woodland before spitting you out onto open heathland with views that stretch across the Weald. On a clear day you can see all the way toward the South Downs, which makes the scrappy scramble to the top feel worthwhile. This works brilliantly for walkers wanting something short and achievable rather than an epic trek. Families with school-age kids will manage it without complaints. The terrain is straightforward enough, though you'll want proper boots after rain. Allow ninety minutes return from Guildford town centre if you're starting from scratch. There's nothing at the summit itself - no café, no interpretive board, just the hill and the view - so bring water and a packed lunch if you want to linger. If you're staying at Chapel Farm Park or Wyldecrest Surrey Hills, both within five miles, this becomes an excellent half-day outing that breaks up a park-based holiday without requiring a lengthy drive. Best visited on weekday mornings when the car parks are less rammed. Worth the trip if you're in the area; not worth a special journey.
