Walk in from the lanes around here and you'll find yourself among proper mixed forest: birch, oak, conifers all tangled together in that way that makes you feel properly away from things, despite being only a few minutes from the market town.

It's a walker's spot, no question. The paths are decent enough but nothing manicured or marked out like a visitor attraction. You're navigating by instinct and landmarks, which appeals to people who like their countryside uncomplicated. Thirty minutes to an hour depending on how far you wander feels about right - long enough to clear your head, short enough not to require planning or proper kit. Families with older kids will get on with it; younger ones might lose interest once the novelty of trees wears off.

What you get is peace and a proper sense of Yorkshire forest. No visitor centre, no cafe, no admission fee nonsense - just the place itself. It slots perfectly into a longer holiday around Tadcaster. Cawood Park and York South are both within easy driving distance, so you could base yourself at one of those and use Broadrow for a morning's outing. Worth a visit if you're already in the area? Absolutely. Worth planning a trip around? Probably not. But that's exactly what makes it refreshing.
