About Brightenber Hill
It's not a technical walk - the paths are manageable - but it's steep enough in places that you'll feel it in your legs. The real payoff is the view once you crest the top. On a clear day you can see right across the Ribble Valley, which alone makes the huffing and puffing worthwhile. The Yorkshire moorland landscape is exactly what you come north for: rolling, windswept, honest.
Families with kids aged 8 and up will manage it fine if they're used to hills. Younger children might find it a slog. Allow two hours return from the base of the walk, maybe three if you're taking photos and stopping for breath. Walkers heading toward Malham or doing a longer loop through the Pennines would do well to include it.
There's no visitor centre or facilities at the summit itself - just you and the view - so pack water and a snack. Free to visit, of course. Spring and autumn are best: winter can get boggy, summer occasionally overrun with weekenders from Leeds. If you're staying at Holgates or Parkdean Resorts further south, it's a decent 45-minute drive, but worth the trip if walking is your thing.
