Brickfields Country Park

The old clay workings at Brickfields have been reclaimed into something rather special - a country park that locals actually use instead of just passing through. You get woodland walks threading past the flooded extraction pits, which have turned into proper little lakes fringed with reeds and willows. The paths are well-maintained and mostly flat, so it's manageable for families with younger kids, though you'll want wellies after rain.

What makes it worth the trip from Farnham is the sense of quiet. No coffee van, no gift shop, just good walking and a bit of birdwatching if you're into that. The water attracts dragonflies and the occasional heron, and in spring the woodland floor comes alive with bluebells. You could easily spend two hours here without rushing, or just pop in for a quick half-hour loop if you're based nearby.

Stay at Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat or Chapel Farm Park - both are within striking distance - and you've got a proper pocket of countryside on your doorstep. It pairs well with the larger estates in the Surrey Hills, but Brickfields itself is smaller and more intimate. Go on a weekday morning if you can; weekends pull in families from across the region, which takes the edge off the peace. Free to visit, and there's parking near the entrance.
