Bracelet Bay

The walk down to Bracelet Bay rewards you with one of Swansea's most dramatic stretches of coastline. Limestone cliffs rise sharply above a sandy beach backed by rock pools that teem with life when the tide's out. On a clear day, the views sweep across the bay towards the Gower Peninsula - genuinely arresting stuff.

It's a proper walk though. The descent from the clifftop car park is steep and occasionally tricky underfoot, especially after rain. Allow 20 minutes down, longer if you're with kids or taking photos constantly. The beach itself is manageable for a couple of hours - rock pooling, paddling, and general pottering about. Families with young children might find it a bit much unless they're seasoned walkers, but teenagers and adults will find it well worth the effort.

The real magic happens at low tide when the rocks reveal their secrets. Sea stars, anemones, and small crabs make appearances. High tide pinches the beach significantly, so timing matters. There's no facilities down on the beach itself - bring what you need from Swansea town centre, just four miles away.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby parks - Blackhills Leisure or Three Cliffs Bay Holiday Park are particularly strong - Bracelet Bay makes an excellent half-day excursion. Don't expect the Gower Peninsula's more famous spots like Three Cliffs itself to be any quieter; this bay has its own considerable charm and far fewer crowds if you arrive early.
