Bourton Woods

Walk into Bourton Woods and you're straight into proper Cotswolds territory - ancient woodland that feels a world away from the honey-stone villages nearby. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, the canopy dense enough that even on bright days you're walking in dappled shade. Paths wind through here, some well-trodden, others quieter, and there's a real sense of stepping back in time among the old oaks and beeches.

It's the kind of place that rewards a slow morning rather than a quick tick-box visit. Spring and autumn are probably your best bets, when the light filters through differently and you're less likely to overheat under the canopy. It's not a destination in itself, but paired with a walk around Chipping Campden or a stay at one of the holiday parks nearby, it slots in perfectly for anyone wanting proper woodland without the crowds.
