Black Park Country Park

The reservoir at Black Park is what draws people in, but it's the woodland walks that keep them there. You get proper views across the water from the main paths, and on a clear day it's the kind of place that makes you understand why people drive out from Uxbridge for an afternoon. The park's been here since Victorian times - it was originally built as a water supply - and there's something about that history that adds weight to the landscape.

The walking is straightforward rather than challenging. Most visitors stick to the perimeter path, which takes roughly an hour at a leisurely pace. It's genuinely good for families with younger kids; there's enough open space that they won't feel cooped up, and the water keeps their attention. Birdwatchers often have binoculars out, especially near the eastern section where the reeds thicken. Free entry, no facilities to speak of, so bring what you need.

Where it fits into a caravan holiday matters. If you're based at Wyatts Covert or Amerden nearby, Black Park works as a morning or late-afternoon stop rather than a full day out. Combine it with a walk into Uxbridge town itself if you want a bit more variety. It's not dramatic enough to dominate your plans, but it's the sort of local spot that makes a stay feel properly rooted rather than just passing through. The light on the water in autumn is particularly worth timing for.
