The appeal here is straightforward: open moorland, a trig point, and that satisfying moment when the landscape clicks into place below you. On clear days the vista stretches toward Manchester. When cloud rolls in (which happens often), you're walking through mist and that particular silence that only high moorland offers.

Walkers will get the most from this - it's their kind of objective. Families with older children manage it fine; younger kids might find the exposed moorland a bit bleak for a full afternoon. Allow two to three hours round trip depending on your route and fitness.
