Black Barrow

Black Barrow is a Bronze Age burial mound sitting quietly on the Dorset heathland, just a few miles from Ringwood. It works best for anyone genuinely interested in prehistoric Britain rather than casual day-trippers. Walkers integrating it into a longer ramble across the New Forest edge will get more from it than families wanting an afternoon's entertainment. The surrounding heathland is the real draw - beautiful, windswept country.

If you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Fernwood Glamping, Ocknell, or Longbeech - it makes a worthwhile detour on a forest walk. Pair it with proper exploration of the New Forest itself rather than treating it as a standalone destination. The real reward here is standing on Bronze Age ground and feeling the weight of that time.
