Berrow Beach

Three miles of golden sand stretching out towards the Bristol Channel - that's Berrow Beach, and it's a proper no-frills seaside experience. Unlike the busier stretches further along the coast, this one feels genuinely quiet, especially out of season. The beach itself is wide and flat, which means the tide goes out a long way, exposing vast banks of sand that are brilliant for families with young kids who want room to run about without the sea getting too close.

Walkers will appreciate the coastal path that runs alongside, giving you views across the water towards Wales on clearer days. The dunes behind the beach are worth exploring too - there's a sense of proper countryside rather than commercialised seaside town. Kite flyers come here regularly because the exposed stretch means steady wind and plenty of space.

There's nothing fancy here - no arcades, no amusement parks, no cafés right on the sand. You'll need to head back into Burnham-on-Sea for facilities, which is only a couple of miles away. This isn't somewhere to spend a full day unless you're genuinely into walking or are happy to sit and do very little. An hour or two of pottering about is the realistic ask.

If you're based at one of the holiday parks nearby - Haven Burnham-on-Sea or Lakeside are both within easy reach - Berrow makes a solid morning outing. It's the kind of beach that rewards low expectations and appeals most to families wanting breathing space and walkers after some uncluttered coastline.
