Beinn Bhuidhe

Getting to the summit of Beinn Bhuidhe means a proper hill walk from the Isle of Mull, and you'll earn your views. The ascent isn't technical - no scrambling nonsense - but it's steep enough to feel like genuine work, especially if you're heading up from the lower reaches near Loch Tuath. Once you're at the top, the reward is panoramic. You get the Argyll coastline stretching out below, neighbouring peaks across the Sound of Mull, and on a clear day you can pick out Jura and Colonsay to the south.

This one's for hillwalkers and landscape photographers mainly. If your idea of a good time is a 45-minute meander on a flat path, save your energy. Budget around four hours for the full round trip, depending on your fitness and how long you linger at the top. The walk itself is relatively quiet compared to the honeypots on mainland Argyll, which is honestly its best feature.

There's no visitor centre or facilities at the peak - bring water, proper kit, and map-reading skills because the summit plateau can get murky fast. Base yourself at Island Pods just 3 miles away on Mull, and this becomes a satisfying morning or afternoon adventure between paddles and island-hopping. Go early in the season when the midges are less biblical, and avoid the deep wet months unless you're genuinely keen on bog.
