About Beeches Park
It's genuinely good for families with younger walkers - nothing too strenuous, and kids tend to be more engaged with trees than yet another visitor centre. History types won't find much in the way of ruins or plaques, but if you're interested in how Scotland managed its timber, the age of these beeches tells a story without needing to read one. Reckon you need an hour maximum unless you're stopping to sketch or photograph every tree trunk.
The location works nicely alongside a caravan holiday - Gallowhill is virtually on the doorstep at under a mile away, and it's the sort of place you can nip to without planning the day around it. Maycroft Retreat, six miles out, is a longer haul but worth knowing about if Gallowhill is full. There's no charge that I'm aware of, and no visitor facilities to speak of, so bring water and don't expect a café. Best visited when the ground's dry - mud here can be sticky.
