Standing at 325 metres, this rounded summit delivers proper Mendip views without the crowds that flock to nearby Cheddar Gorge. The climb from any direction is steady rather than punishing - think vigorous dog walk rather than mountain assault. Once you've reached the top, the Somerset Levels spread out like a vast green carpet, with the Bristol Channel glinting in the distance on clear days.

Walkers will love the network of paths that criss-cross the hill, many following ancient drove roads used by farmers for centuries. Families with older children (say 8+) will manage fine, though younger ones might grumble on the steeper sections. The summit itself is unremarkable - no dramatic rocky outcrop here - but the 360-degree views more than compensate.

Being part of the Mendip Hills AONB means it's free to roam, though parking can be tricky near the popular starting points. Early morning visits reward you with fewer people and often clearer air. Allow two to three hours for a decent circuit.
