Baughton Hill

Views across Worcestershire don't come much better than this, though you'll earn every inch of the panorama. Baughton Hill rises to a respectable height just outside Worcester, offering proper countryside walking without the crowds that plague more famous peaks. The climb is steady rather than brutal - manageable for most walkers but enough to get your heart rate up.

On a clear day, the Malvern Hills stretch out to the southwest while the Cotswolds roll away to the southeast. Worcester Cathedral's distinctive tower provides a handy landmark to orient yourself. Families with older children will find it achievable, though toddlers might struggle with the steeper sections.

The summit itself lacks any formal facilities - this is proper countryside walking rather than a tourist attraction. Bring water and decent boots, especially after rain when the paths can get properly muddy. Early morning visits reward you with fewer people and often clearer views before the afternoon haze sets in.

If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Bredon View or Cotswold Grange, it makes for a cracking half-day excursion. The walk up and back down takes about two hours, leaving plenty of time for other activities. Just don't expect signposted paths or visitor centres - this is walking as it should be, with nature setting the agenda.
