Walking into Battery Plantation near Hereford feels like stepping back into someone's woodland project rather than a manicured attraction. It's a proper forest - the kind where you actually notice the trees instead of just seeing them - and the name hints at its past military use, though that history sits quietly in the background.

What you get here is straightforward: woodland walks through dense forest cover, the sort of place where the light filters green through the canopy and you can actually hear yourself think. There's no visitor centre or café, no guided trails with interpretive boards. It's just woodland. If you're after a gentle ramble before heading back to Goytree Glamping or Grove Farm Glamping - both brilliant options just five or so miles away - this works well. Families will find enough to explore without it being exhausting, though younger children might lose interest after an hour or so since there's little that's actively "done" here.
