About Baslow Edge

The walk up to Baslow Edge takes about twenty minutes from the village car park, and it's steep enough to get your heart going but nothing technical. Once you're there, the view across the Wye Valley and towards Chatsworth House is the sort of thing that makes you understand why people move to Derbyshire and never leave.

It's a proper viewpoint - one of those high moorland spots where you can see for miles on a clear day. The edge itself is formed by rocky outcrops that run along the ridge, giving you something to scramble about on if you fancy it. Walkers and photographers will find plenty to keep them occupied. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the steep approach a bit of a slog.

The whole experience takes around an hour if you're not rushing. Free to visit, naturally, and there's no specific "best time" - though you'll want decent visibility to make the view worthwhile, so avoid the grey drizzly days.

If you're staying at one of the nearby campsites - Chatsworth Park is just over two miles away, or Secret Wood and Lambs Glamping if you want something a touch more upmarket - this makes an excellent half-day addition to a Derbyshire break. Combine it with a walk down to Baslow village itself or a visit to Chatsworth Estate, and you've got a proper day sorted. Not a dramatic peak, but well worth the climb from Bakewell.
