Bare Crabbing Pool

A small, murky pool just outside Carnforth that's popular with locals but won't set your pulse racing. Bare Crabbing Pool is exactly what the name suggests - a body of water where people have traditionally come to catch crabs, mainly for sport or the occasional feed. The setting is bog-standard Lancashire countryside: reedy banks, a car park, and the sort of view that makes you appreciate why people need holiday parks nearby.

It's free to visit and works best if you're already in the area rather than making a special journey. Allow an hour at most, maybe longer if you've got kids keen on pond-dipping or a quiet sit-down with binoculars. Spring and summer bring more wildlife; winter is honestly pretty bleak.
