Banksy ‘Kissing Coppers’

The wall on Tichborne Street in Brighton where two policemen locked lips became one of Banksy's most iconic images - and it's still there, faded but unmissable. The stencilled officers kissing mid-riot gear arrived sometime around 2004, and the council had the good sense not to paint over it. You'll find it facing the street, big enough to spot from a distance but intimate enough that you'll want to get close.

This isn't a visitor attraction with opening hours or admission fees - it's just a mural on a working street corner. That's part of its appeal, actually. You can stand and stare for as long as you like, snap your photos, and move on. Most people spend ten minutes here max, which is fair enough unless you're genuinely into street art analysis.

It pulls in a specific crowd: art students, Banksy completists, and the odd curious family. If you're staying at Southdown Way Caravan & Camping Park, it's a straightforward drive into Brighton - perfect for an afternoon detour while you're exploring the seafront and the Lanes anyway. That said, don't make a special trip here if street art leaves you cold. It's brilliant, but it's also just a wall. See it when you're in Brighton proper, not as a standalone reason to visit Sussex.

The light's best in morning when the sun hits it properly. Go midweek if you want to photograph it without a dozen other tourists in frame.
