Audleby Square Wood

There's something properly restorative about walking into Audleby Square Wood near Market Rasen. The trees close in quickly, and you're away from the surrounding farmland - which is exactly why locals keep coming back. It's a modest woodland, nothing dramatic, but the paths are decent and there's genuine quietness here, the kind you don't often find in the East Midlands.

You'll wander through mixed woodland, mostly beech and oak, with decent floor coverage that changes with the seasons. Spring brings bluebells if you time it right. Summer is lush and cool. Autumn turns everything properly gold. The walks aren't long or particularly challenging - most people manage the main circuit in under an hour - which makes it ideal if you've got restless kids or you just want a proper stretch without the hiking commitment.

It's free, which helps. No facilities that I'm aware of, so bring a flask if you're planning to linger. Best visited midweek if you can manage it - weekends bring the local dog walkers out in force, which is fine but takes the edge off the peace.

If you're staying at Wolds View Country Park just 1.3 miles away, this is an absolute no-brainer for an evening walk before supper. Even from Station Farm Caravan and Camping Site at nearly four miles, it's worth the short drive. Pair it with the market town itself for a decent afternoon - nothing fancy, but solid woodland and somewhere to properly clear your head.
