Arnside Knott

Climbing 522 feet above Morecambe Bay, this limestone knoll delivers views that punch well above its modest height. The walk up from Arnside village takes about 45 minutes through woodland paths that can get properly muddy after rain, but the effort pays off handsomely once you reach the top.

From the summit trig point, you'll see across the shifting sands of Morecambe Bay to the Lake District fells, with Blackpool Tower visible on clear days. It's a cracking spot for sunset, though you'll want a torch for the descent. The route isn't too taxing for reasonably fit families, but toddlers might struggle with the steeper sections near the top.

Walkers and photographers get the most from this one. Dog owners love it too - plenty of space for four-legged friends to roam at the summit. The National Trust manages the area, so access is free year-round, though parking in Arnside village can be a bit hit-and-miss in summer.

Being just outside Carnforth, it's well placed for a day out from the holiday parks around the bay. Holgates is less than a mile away, while families staying at Haven Lakeland or the other parks near Milnthorpe have an easy drive over. Allow two to three hours for the full experience, including time to soak up those views.
