Ardachearanbeg Neolithic Cairn

A modest stone pile on a hillside above Colintraive might not sound thrilling, but Ardachearanbeg Neolithic Cairn has been here for around 5,000 years - long before the Victorians got sentimental about Scottish ruins. It's the real deal: a Bronze Age burial mound, still intact enough to read as a deliberate structure rather than landscape rubble.

You'll find it on foot, a short walk from the village, with proper views across the Firth of Bute. The cairn itself isn't vast - perhaps 40 metres across - but standing there you're looking at genuine Neolithic engineering. No café, no interpretation boards, no fuss.
