Allt Llwynwernod

Dense oak and ash trees rise from steep valley sides just inland from New Quay, creating one of Ceredigion's quieter woodland walks. Allt Llwynwernod might not roll off the tongue easily, but this patch of ancient woodland offers proper peace away from the coastal crowds. The paths wind through mature trees that have stood here for centuries, with occasional glimpses of the Cardigan Bay coastline through the canopy.

Families with older children will get the most from exploring here - the terrain can be uneven and muddy after rain, so it's not pushchair territory. Dog walkers love it for the freedom to roam, and anyone seeking a contemplative walk will find the birdsong and rustling leaves properly restorative. Spring brings bluebells carpeting the forest floor, while autumn sees the leaves turn spectacular shades of amber and gold.

Allow a good hour or two if you want to explore thoroughly, though you could easily spend longer just sitting and listening to the woodland sounds. The forest appears to be freely accessible, making it an excellent contrast to beach days when staying at one of the many holiday parks clustered around New Quay. Pencnwc Holiday Park and Haven Quay West are both close enough to make this a regular morning walk destination.
