The climb up to All Saints on Kilvey Hill is steeper than you'd expect from Swansea, and that's rather the point. This 12th-century church sits perched above the city like a secret someone forgot to shout about, commanding views across the Swansea Valley that make the huffing worthwhile.

It's a proper old place - stone walls, narrow windows, the kind of church that feels genuinely medieval rather than restored to death. The interior is modest but genuine, with enough character to satisfy history types without demanding hours of your time. Most people spend twenty minutes inside, then another ten just standing about looking at the view.

Kilvey itself is less a destination and more a deliberate detour if you're camped nearby - the Swansea Marina Tourer Park is under a mile away, or Riverside Holiday Park just over three miles if you're after something with more space. The walk up takes about fifteen minutes from the base of the hill, so it's manageable with older kids but younger ones might grumble about the gradient.

Go on a clear day, frankly. Mist rolls in off the Bristol Channel and renders the whole exercise pointless. Weekday mornings tend to be quieter, and you'll likely have the place to yourself. There's no proper visitor infrastructure - no café, no gift shop, no information boards - which is either refreshingly honest or frustratingly vague depending on your mood. Free to visit, as far as anyone can tell, though opening hours seem to depend on whoever's holding the key that week.
