Bouncing about on trampolines isn't what you'd normally associate with Essex, but AirHop in Chelmsford has made it work. This is an indoor trampoline park - proper fun if you've got energetic kids, less so if you're after a quiet nature walk. You get wall-to-wall trampolines, foam pits, dodgeball courts, and the sort of controlled chaos that makes children lose their minds for a couple of hours. Adults can join in too, though you'll feel it in your calves the next morning.

The place works best for families with children aged five to early teens. Younger ones might struggle with the height and bounce, whilst teenagers often find it uncool unless their mates are there. Pre-book if possible - weekend sessions get rammed and you'll spend half the time queuing. Allow two hours minimum, maybe three if you're doing a full session.

If you're camping nearby at The Courts Campsite, Hoe Mill Lock, or Stuarts Wood, this is an excellent rainy-day backup or an afternoon activity when the weather turns. Chelmsford itself is just minutes away, which means you can pair it with other attractions easily. It's not a nature reserve in the traditional sense - the data's a bit off there - but it does what it does competently. Worth the visit if weather's poor or the kids need to burn off serious energy, though don't expect anything remarkable. The novelty tends to wear off after two visits.
