History enthusiasts will genuinely get their money's worth here; the attention to everyday objects is thorough. Walkers passing through the area will find it worth a half-day detour, especially since the Kirkstall Abbey ruins are right next door - proper medieval atmosphere there, and free to wander around.

The museum itself is free, which is generous. Allow a couple of hours if you're taking it slowly, less if you just want a quick spin through. Go on a weekday if you can - weekends tend to get busier and the rooms feel cramped.
