West Malling feels like stepping back decades. The high street retains its independent shops, and the old runway memorial reminds you this was serious Battle of Britain territory. East Malling's station connects you to London in under an hour, making this commuter belt with countryside credentials.

From any of the nearby parks - River View Camping sits particularly well for exploring both town and country - you're within striking distance of everything that makes Kent special. The North Downs rise dramatically to the south, while Yalding's medieval bridge spans the Medway to the east. It's proper hop country here, where oast houses dot the landscape like architectural punctuation marks.

Clare Park handles the family entertainment duties well enough, though the real draw is simply being in authentic Kent countryside. Twenty minutes to Canterbury, thirty to the coast, but with enough rural roads and footpaths to keep you busy for a fortnight. The M20 whisks you here from London, but once you're settled, the car stays parked.
