The surrounding countryside rolls away in gentle Yorkshire Wolds fashion - all green fields and woodland copses like Deepdale Plantation and Rush Wold Plantation providing lovely walking territory.

Walton Abbey Remains offer a glimpse into the area's monastic past, though you'll need to venture out from the town centre. More intriguing is Leconfield Castle, where the archaeological remains and moat hint at grander times. The whole area's dotted with these historical fragments.
