York Leisure Centre sits right on the edge of the city, a proper modern sports complex that's genuinely useful if you're staying at one of the nearby parks and fancy a break from the outdoors. It's not a tourist attraction in the traditional sense - there's no heritage, no views, no Instagram moment - but that's rather the point. You get a decent-sized swimming pool, gym facilities, sports halls, and the sort of amenities that mean families don't have to abandon city breaks just because the weather turns.

The main draw is the pool, which is decent enough for a couple of hours' splashing about with kids.
