York's Cineworld sits bang in the city centre, and it's your standard multiplex - nothing fancy, but genuinely useful if you're parked up at one of the nearby caravan sites like Wagtail Park or Flaxton Meadows and fancy an evening out. You get the usual run of blockbusters, the occasional art-house film, and decent enough screens with proper sound. There's a Starbucks onsite, which matters more than it should when you're trying to kill two hours before the film starts.

Look, it's not a day out in itself. You're not coming to York for Cineworld. But if you're staying at one of the holiday parks - Nurseries or Fox Hill, say - and the weather's turned, or the kids need something to do after a day tramping around the city walls, it does the job. Tickets cost the usual London prices (so, not cheap), and you book online to avoid the queue. Go midweek afternoon matinee if you want peace and quiet; weekends are rammed with school groups and couples.

Allow about two and a half hours door-to-door, including the walk from wherever you've parked. The screen quality is fine without being exceptional. Real draw here is convenience rather than experience - you could do exactly the same film in any city. If you've got younger kids stuck indoors, it's a solid backup plan. Otherwise, you're better off spending your evening exploring York's actual attractions.
