About Yoadcastle
This is moorland walking, so it's exposed. The peak itself isn't dramatic - no dramatic scramble or rocky summit - but that's rather the point. You're out on open ground with the wind in your face and visibility for miles. Walkers and fell-runners use this route regularly, and it sits nicely within reach of Holmrook for anyone basing themselves in the area.
The terrain is typical Lake District fells: rough grass, boggy patches, the occasional rocky outcrop. Decent boots aren't optional. Allow two to three hours for a round trip depending on your pace, though strong walkers will do it in less.
If you're camped at Fisherground Campsite - just a few miles away - this makes an excellent afternoon outing. It's straightforward enough for family groups with older kids, though younger children might struggle with the gradient and distance. The lack of facilities on the peak itself means you'll want water and something to eat beforehand.
Not spectacular in the way some Lakeland peaks are, but solid, honest fell walking with decent views and far fewer crowds than the bigger names attract.
