About High Tongue
You're looking at a solid two hours up and the same back down, depending on fitness. The ascent's straightforward rather than technical - boggy in places, which is typical for these slopes - but nothing that stops a reasonably capable walker. Families with older kids who've done a few fells already will manage fine. Younger children might find it a bit relentless, and there's not much to break up the walk itself.
Go on a clear day or don't bother. The real appeal is the perspective you get from up there: you're far enough up to feel remote, but close enough to the valleys that you're not spending all day getting there. Summer's the obvious choice, though spring can be brilliant if the weather plays along.
Fisherground Campsite and Great Langdale Campsite both sit within striking distance, making this a cracking warm-up walk before tackling any of the bigger peaks in the area. It's the kind of fell that teaches you something about the landscape without demanding everything you've got.
