About Goat Crag
This is walkers' country, not a tourist tick box. Families with older kids who fancy a genuine hill walk without the Scafell Pike crowds will get proper value here. The climb is steady rather than brutal, though the paths can be boggy in places and it's easy to stray off line if the cloud comes in fast - which it does, often. Budget two to three hours return from the valley, depending on how long you linger at the top.
It works brilliantly as part of a broader Lake District camping trip. Fisherground Campsite sits just three and a half miles away in Holmrook itself, which is dead handy for basing yourself there. Great Langdale Campsite, five and a half miles off, gives you access to some of the district's best-known valleys if you fancy mixing your walks. Neither site will charge you much and both are solid enough. Goat Crag isn't the sort of fell that demands a journey, but it slots neatly into a walking holiday without fuss.
