Ynys Piod

The walk up to Ynys Piod isn't long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your calves. Once you're at the top of this rocky outcrop near Pwllheli, the Cardigan Bay view justifies the effort. On a clear day you can see for miles across the water, and the whole sweep of the Lleyn Peninsula opens up behind you.

It's the kind of spot that rewards walkers more than casual strollers. Families with decent-aged kids will manage it fine, though toddlers might struggle with the final push. The actual viewpoint is exposed and windswept - bring a jacket even if it looks calm lower down.

There's no visitor infrastructure up here, which is part of its charm. You're not fighting crowds or queuing for a photo opportunity. The rocks themselves are worth a look if you're into geology, all craggy and weathered. Allow 45 minutes to an hour including the walk and time to sit about.

If you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Glampio Coed or Tyn Ddol are both close by - this makes a cracking morning adventure before breakfast. Treheli Farm is another option if you've got a caravan or tent. Combine it with a wander around Pwllheli itself and you've got a proper half-day sorted. The climb pays off. Worth it.
