The tidal island off Pwllheli's coast has a bit of local mystique attached to it - whether that's earned or just Welsh folklore doing its job, I can't quite say. What you get is a proper walk across the sands at low tide to reach it, watching the water gradually recede to reveal the route. The island itself isn't enormous, more of a rocky outcrop really, but the views back towards the Llŷn Peninsula are solid, and there's something satisfying about standing somewhere you can only access twice a day.

The appeal depends entirely on your tolerance for tidal planning. History types might get a buzz from whatever local stories attach to the place, though I'd recommend asking around Pwllheli first - the locals know far more than any signage will tell you. Families with young children will find the walk manageable, though timing matters. Get it wrong and you're waiting hours for the tide to turn. Kids aged six upwards who can handle a bit of sand trudging will be fine. Bring a proper watch or phone timer.

It's a free attraction and takes roughly an hour including the walk there and back, longer if you want to explore the island properly. The real value is the excuse for a proper coastal walk rather than the destination itself. Haven Hafan y Môr is just down the coast - stay there and this becomes a pleasant afternoon detour rather than a pilgrimage. Check tide times before you go. That's non-negotiable.
