Yes Tor

The walk up Yes Tor rewards you with proper views across Dartmoor - on a clear day you can see for miles across moorland that feels genuinely remote despite being just outside Okehampton. It's not the highest point on the moor, but it punches above its weight for views and the climb itself is straightforward enough that most people manage it without drama.

The tor itself is a pile of granite rocks that you can scramble over once you've reached the top - nothing technical, just fun if you like that sort of thing. The moorland around it changes colour with the seasons; golden gorse in summer, purple heather in late August, brown and bleak come winter. The path from Okehampton is well-used and fairly obvious, taking between an hour and ninety minutes depending on your pace.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Kids can manage it no problem, though younger ones might need encouragement on the descent. History types won't find much - it's geology and landscape rather than ruins or settlements. On weekends it gets busy with local ramblers, so if you prefer peace and quiet, aim for a weekday or early morning.
