Wynyard Woodland Walk

The woodland walk at Wynyard, just outside Stockton-on-Tees, is a straightforward loop through mixed woodland that does exactly what it says on the tin. You get trees, paths, and a bit of green space when you need it - nothing fancy, but honest.

It's the sort of place where walkers kill an hour between other plans, rather than the sort you'd drive across the county to reach. The trails are well-maintained and accessible enough for families with kids who can manage their own feet. If you've got elderly relatives or anyone with mobility concerns, check the current state of the paths first - woodland walks can get muddy and uneven.

What works best here is using it as a leg-stretch during a caravan holiday at one of the nearby parks. Donnewell Farm and Woodside Ridge are both strong options if you're basing yourselves in the area, and Wynyard makes a decent break from site life. The walk takes maybe 45 minutes at a comfortable pace, an hour if you dawdle and let the kids poke about in the undergrowth.

Timing-wise, spring is loveliest when the woodland floor comes alive, though any season works. Early morning or late afternoon avoids crowds - though truthfully, this isn't the sort of place that ever gets rammed. It's free, which is the right price for what you're getting. Good for clearing your head, not designed to impress you.
