Wycherley Coppice

The woodland around Wycherley Coppice, just outside Shrewsbury, is proper walking territory. You're in a working forest here - not the sort of manicured country park where everything's been trimmed back for Instagram photos. Mature trees, decent canopy cover, and paths that meander through genuine old coppice woodland make this a solid choice if you want a proper walk without heading miles from town.

It's best suited to walkers who actually enjoy being in the trees rather than ticking off a viewpoint. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after an hour or so - there's no playground nonsense or heritage centre to break things up, just woodland. That's the appeal, really. The canopy keeps things cool even on warm days, and if you time it right for autumn, the colour can be cracking.

If you're based at Love2Stay or Ebury Hill Camping and Caravanning Club Site nearby - both just a couple of miles away - this works as your morning walk before heading elsewhere. Combine it with the larger parks in the area for a proper week of exploring. Spring's worth the trip for bluebells; summer's quieter than you'd expect given how close it is to Shrewsbury itself.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared. It's free access, which counts for something. Not essential viewing, but if you're camping locally and fancy stretching your legs in proper woodland, you could do far worse.
