Wortley Top Forge Miniature Railway

A miniature railway winding through the grounds of a former ironworks - that's what you get at Wortley Top Forge, just outside Barnsley. The narrow-gauge trains run on tracks laid out across what was once a working industrial site, and the whole thing has that genuine feel of a heritage project rather than a theme park attraction.

You'll ride behind proper little steam and diesel locomotives on journeys that take you past restored railway buildings and through woodland. It's the sort of place where the volunteers clearly know their stuff and actually care about getting the detail right.
