Wormley Hill

At 280 metres, Wormley Hill is hardly a mountain, but it does offer proper views across the Surrey countryside if you catch it on a clear day. The walk up takes about twenty minutes from the base, and you'll find yourself surrounded by woodland and open heath - very much the classic South East landscape. It's the sort of place locals know well but visitors often miss entirely.

The hill itself is free to access and there's no faffing about with gates or opening hours. You can go whenever suits you. The terrain is straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the final push a bit steep. The real appeal here is the solitude. You won't fight crowds like you do at more famous Surrey beauty spots.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping sites - Little Cowdray Farm is closest at less than three miles away - Wormley Hill makes an ideal morning walk before breakfast or a late afternoon outing when the light's best. Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat, four and a half miles out, also works well as a base. The walk connects easily with other local paths, so you can string together a longer route through the woods without much planning.

Worth the visit? Yes, if you're already in the area and enjoy undemanding countryside walks. Don't make a special journey from Godalming town centre just for this. It's a decent way to spend an hour, nothing more.
