Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum

The mill sits right on Woodbridge's waterfront, and it's one of those places that looks more interesting from outside than in - until you actually go in. Built in the 18th century, it's a proper working tide mill, which means the River Deben's tidal movements powered the grinding stones. You can see the machinery, understand how millers timed their work around the tides, and get a genuine sense of what life was like in a working mill during its heyday.

It's small, honestly. You'll spend maybe 45 minutes here if you're thorough, less if you're just passing through. History buffs and anyone with engineering curiosity will find it worthwhile. Families with young kids might lose interest quickly unless they're already keen on how things work. The museum does what it sets out to do without any fuss - no interactive screens or gimmicks, just the building and the story.

Woodbridge itself is a pleasant Suffolk town with proper riverside walks, decent pubs, and enough to keep you occupied for an afternoon. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Woodbridge Glamping is practically on your doorstep at under a mile away - it's an easy 10-minute wander to the mill. Moon & Sixpence is another option if you want slightly more space. The tide mill works as a nice half-hour diversion before or after exploring the river meadows on foot. Worth doing once if you're in the area, but don't plan a whole day around it.
