Wood Barrow

The walk up Wood Barrow rewards you with a view that justifies the effort, even if the climb is steeper than you'd expect from the map. This Devon peak sits above Lynton, and on a clear day you're looking across the Bristol Channel towards Wales. The summit itself is fairly modest - no dramatic trig point or cairn, just moorland and the satisfaction of having made it to the top.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a stroll, and the paths can get boggy depending on rainfall. Give yourself a good hour each way from Lynton, maybe longer if you're taking it easy or stopping for the views. The ridge walk up is proper bracing, and winter conditions can make it genuinely tricky, so check what you're getting into if you're visiting between November and March.

There's no admission fee or facilities at the summit itself. Lynton is your base - grab supplies there before heading out.
